While reselling or trading in an RV is a fairly common practice, there isn’t a ton of advice out there on how to prepare for the upcoming sale. Not only will you need to give your model quite a bit of care and attention before you sell, but you’ll also need to gather a number of different documents to ensure everything goes smoothly. For tips on how to prepare to sell your used RV, check out our tips below.

Get an Inspection

If possible, be sure to get your RV inspected before you make plans to resell it or trade it in with a dealership. An inspection gives you a lot of negotiating power, as the RV’s condition is laid out very clearly in black and white, and allows you the opportunity to complete small repairs on your RV to increase its overall value. However, before you complete any of these repairs, be sure to present your inspection results to your mechanic and ask for a general estimate. While small services can be beneficial, large repairs may not be worth the trouble if they cost more than the overall price of your rig.

Gather Documents

In order to trade in or resell your RV, you’ll need to gather a wide variety of documentation for your rig. To begin, we recommend gathering as many maintenance and service center receipts as possible to present as proof of care and upkeep over the years. You’ll also need to find the title for your RV, and the registration if it’s required in your state. You’ll also need to provide some form of documentation if your RV has ever been in an accident or is still under a manufacturer’s warranty.
